It\u2019s an ironic love letter to the city of Santa Monica in the style of something off the Beach Boys\u2019 Pet Sounds. The cyclical motion of waves on the beach and the famous Ferris Wheel at Santa Monica Pier are juxtaposed against the relentless upward surge of rent prices in the area.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Barbara Allen String Quartet - April 15, 2019\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oDqmrJLkF9M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption><em>The Barbara Allen String Quartet<\/em> was inspired by Howard Richardson and William Berney&#8217;s 1942 stage play <em>Dark of the Moon,<\/em> which, itself,<em> <\/em>is based on the old Scottish ballad, \u201cBarbara Allen\u201d (circa 1600). This programmatic music unfolds in three movements; expressing Thomas Allen\u2019s ascent of the Appalachian mountain to pray for a child, his murder 16 years later committed by his daughter Barbara Allen, who was conceived through a pact with the devil, and her subsequent seduction of the town reverend through confession of her act.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ego Finale - David Barton Harris - November 20, 2019\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qe1PTO2SD4k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption><em>Ego<\/em> is a theatrical work exploring musicians&#8217; virtuosity, how it is often linked to the self-worth of the performer, and when it falls on its face.
